Ivy Cottage Was a Shop run by Jane Fergusson from late 1800’s. She was assisted by her sister Mary Speirs and her niece Mary Duncan. Mary Speirs died in 1901 and Jane Fergusson died in 1925 (she was the Aunt of Jane Fergusson at The Old Inn Shop).
Mary Duncan carried on the shop for a number of years.
There is a large stone below the window facing the road and village children climbed up on this to look in the window at the sweets.

What a find!
When I was a boy – 60 years ago – I heard my Granny (Ann Leith) mention Strachur a few times but had no real idea of why. I asked my Mum just today (23/06/2021) if she knew anything. She wasn’t able to say much but knew there was a relative that my Granny visited in Strachur and she remembered that my Granny also talked about a pony and trap. Looking back at our family tree I found Robert Anderson (my Granny’s uncle b. 07/02/1862 in Mordington, near Eyemouth) who was a baker in Strachur. Google did the rest; and I found this page. What a wonderful discovery. Thank you so much.

See previous post.
Sorry; just noticed an error in my previous comment. The Robert Anderson I noted actually died as a 3-year old child in 1865. The Robert Anderson I should have noted was his older brother born 21/09/1871. (It was often the practice to name a later child after one who had died young.)
Thanks again
