Welcome – go to Areas of Interest to navigate our site

May 2021

We have been uploading material about various families who lived in Strachur House – previously Strachur Park. Most recently The Plowden Family, who were there from 1897 – 1918. SDLHS are lucky enough to have had access to a wealth of information about this family and the challenge has been presenting just the correct amount. More will appear soon.

Based in the village of Strachur on the Eastern shore of Loch Fyne, the Strachur & District local history society have been gathering information about the history of the region since the formation of the society in 2007.

This Website, set up as a great lockdown project, is giving us the chance to share our huge volume of gathered history of the District. Please keep checking from time to time for new items as this is very much a work in progress and we are extremely grateful to those who have allowed us to use their photos.

While adding photos and information for this website we will do our best to be careful not to publish material that might upset anyone. However if we mistakenly have, please let us know and we will remove it. Any misspelt names will also be immediately corrected if you let us know. Please contact us if you have photos or information you are willing to share to enhance our site.

The current editors of this site would like to thank all committee members, both past and present for all their work. Without painstaking research, meticulous recording and careful storage of material it would not have been possible to produce this website.

Looks like a good website, my Great Grandparents moved to Strachur in the late 19th early 20th century George Dickson Stobie, goodluck with it?

Wow! What a wealth of information you have on here. Thank you for the effort. Those of us with ancestral roots can gain a real appreciation for the area & its history from the site. I’ll be visiting again soon to find out more about Strachur & the District. Warm regards. Patsy McLaughlin
