Based in the village of Strachur on the Eastern shore of Loch Fyne, the Strachur & District local history society have been gathering information about the history of the region since the formation of the society in 2007. Thanks to our generous supporters we have amassed an archive of images and documents spanning c. 150 years which have formed the basis of our open days and exhibitions. We host regular talks on a wide variety of historical subjects, we have listed the stones in the Strachur Church graveyard and published a book which can be purchased on this site or via our face book page. We hold the Old Parish Records for Strachur and Strathlachlan and are pleased to assist anyone searching their family connections to these villages. Our interest encompasses the wider region of the districts of Strachur from St Catherine’s and Cairndow to the north to Glendaruel, Colintraive and Kilfinnan heading south into the Cowal Peninsula. We are truly passionate about our local history and wish that our interest and enthusiasm for it might live on after we have become figures in its landscape so if you feel able to contribute to that journey we would be very happy to hear from you.
