(In The Estate – beside Garden Cottage)

Information from Canmore

The Bridge acquired the name because Betty Jenkins lived in a cottage beside the bridge. She (Elizabeth McCallum) was born in 1792 in Glen Fyne, Kilmorich. Her father, Gilbert McCallum was Herd in Glen Fyne, her mother Christian McVean. Betty married Walter Jenkins (from Greenock) in 1818. Betty had been living in Strachur at the time of her marriage. 1841 Census shows her living at Strachur Bay with her brother Alexander McCallum, Betty was a widow. From 1848 Church Record to 1871 Census Record – she is living in Strachur Park. At the time of her death in 1874 she was living at the Clachan.

There’s a record of the bridge on Canmore (Historic Environment Scotland) which says it is 18th century. https://canmore.org.uk/site/157026/strachur-house-policies-betty-jenkinss-bridge
