1879 – Small Hotel at Creggans was opened (source North British Daily Mail 31.7.1879). Owned by the various proprietors of Strachur Estate until 2002.

J.W. Morrison 1901- Then from 1915-1960’s Donald Morrison ran the shop, he was a licenced grocer, butcher, sold ironmongers and employed 7 tailors.

Creggans Cattle Market

There are early accounts of having twice yearly Fairs in Strachur, May and October held in The Bay area.

Newspapers documents show the Cattle Market to be at the Creggans from 1920 to 1973. Picture of the Creggans Market is on our website.

Speedie Brothers Ltd., Auctioneers, from Stirling managed the sales.

The largest number of Cattle being sold was in 1943 – 338 Cattle and 7 horses.
