On 4th June 2022 a celebration was held in the Memorial Hall to commemorate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. SDLHS displayed photographs of people who had received awards.



James Fleming invented a locking carriage which held the trees off the ground rather than dragging them. He received his honour in the 1973 and the presentation was in April 1974


Niall Campbell received a BEM for services to piping


Meeting Princess Anne

Mrs Annette Clark was awarded an MBE for her work with Greenock W.V.S.


Liz Dow at Buckingham Palace in 2010. She was awarded an MBE for services to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.


Douglas Currie was awarded an MBE both for his work in the community and with Argyll and Bute Council. He was chair of the Memorial Hall Committee.

Sir Fitzroy Maclean received many honours. High among them being Knight of the Most Ancient and Most Noble of the Thistle.

Mrs Mary Beaton, pictured here with Lord Bute, received a BEM – she was the retired chair of Strachur Community Council and, for 28 years, the Captain of the Girls’ Brigade (formerly the Girls’ Guildry.

Miss Sue Manton was awarded a MBE for her work in collecting for Erskine and The War Blinded and Member of the British Legion.
