Open Day 2011

In September we held an Open Day. Our theme for this year was 'Shops and Post Offices' of which Strachur once had many more than are now to be found.

The event proved very popular and the hall was thronged for much of the day
Strachur had more than one bakery in the past - which Mavis MacGregor did her best to reproduce.
Some people, like Fiona Campbell, got into period costume for the event.
Many visitors were fascinated by browsing through our extensive photo archive.
We also had demonstrations of crafts that used to be carried on in Strachur - here Tom Hill
shows authentic leatherworking tools and techniques.
Marcia Clark showed how baskets were and still are woven by hand
Sarah Sumsion dyes her own yarn and then weaves it into textiles on a hand loom.
